Mr. James Mc Lane Makes a Generous Donation to North Caddo Historical Society

James recently made the museum and historical society brighter with his early Christmas present. Thank you Mr. Mc Lane! Wishing you all the best in 2012!
World War II Serviceman, Mr. W.H. Greene of Belcher, Louisiana was the speaker on March 15, 2011. He
gave a personal and emotional account of his experiences during World War II. One highlight of his talk was his account of the cease fire that ended the war. Mr. Greene has kindly loaned us some very interesting editorials and books pertaining to his service during World War II. The information is on display in the upper level of the Museum, and would certainly be of interest to history students and others interested in knowing more on a personal level about those who have fought to defend our country.

Mr. Jeff Wilkerson, a Pearl Harbor survivor, spoke to Historical Society Members on Tuesday evening, January 18,2011. He spoke of the moments before, and after the bombing by Japanese fighter planes and submarines. He was on the U.S.S. California when it was bombed and soon found himself in the water which was aflame fueled by oil that had spilled from the ship. He spoke of the sadness and helplessness he felt as many of his comrades drowned because they could not swim.
In those days there was no knowledge of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, so Mr. Wilkerson, then only 17 years old, was forced to come to terms with the horrors he had experienced by himself. He said he suspects he will never forget what he experienced that fateful day, but considers himself a survivor. "I just want to live!" said the 88 year old who dismisses the word hero to describe himself.
